Products VP For SF's Green Co. Terrapass
Terrapass just announced that it had pulled in the former CEO of Expedia to be its CEO. The company has raised $500K from angels but with the new boss, we expect funding will be much less of an issue. The company enables people to ensure that their travel, weddings and more are eco-friendly. Given the current interest in global warming and passion by some people to set an example, Terrapass would seem to not only be a sound startup but a rewarding one as well.

TerraPass already has the most advanced set of tools in the environmental and climate change market, but we know they are rudimentary compared to what is possible. We’re hiring an experienced technical leader to join our management team, put structure around our around the clock brainstorming sessions, and develop the technical infrastructure that underlies the TerraPass web site and order fulfillment process. This is a great opportunity to take your skills, build a team and help millions of consumers fight climate change.
Here’s what our Vice President, Products will do:
* Create a robust development environment, including source code control, testing, and update process.
* Design a traditional three-tier web application architecture that can scale up smoothly as our customer base grows.
* Select and implement ecommerce software, including payment gateway, user account management, and other standard features, such as affiliate sales, coupons, gift certificates, etc.
* Design and implementation of an order fulfillment back-end and customer help desk that enables us to efficiently handle incoming orders and customer inquiries.
* Implement web site instrumentation that allows for split-testing and analysis of visitor metrics.
* Implement content management system selection that facilitates more dynamic content throughout the web site.
Here’s what we’re looking for in a candidate:
* Excellent ability to distill business and functional requirement into engineering specifications
* Able to manage and communicate clear schedules based on a variety of inputs and priorities.
* Ability to build bridges to development teams at external partners as required
* Creative and independent thinker
* A “test and iterate” development philosophy
* A religion for consumer feedback
* Enjoys doing a lot with a little
* Detail oriented, structured thinker
And here are the qualifications we’re looking for:
* Experience running an ecommerce web site with rich, dynamic content and features common to social web applications.
* The engineering background necessary to do hands-on development work, technology evaluation and selection, even though your primary responsibility will be hiring and leading an engineering team (both contract and internal).
* Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with outside contractors partners
* Experience with start up preferred
* Personal passion for TerraPass company mission essential, although you’ll know that there are lights other than CFLs and that trains aren’t the only efficient things that run on rails.
