GM, Engineering At Compete Inc. in Boston

This isn't analytics firms Compete.com. CompeteInc. is an online market research firm backed by Charles River, Idealab, William Blair and others. They are offering a job for a GM of Engineering, which is an unusual job title.

The candidate will lead the day to day management of the engineering and operations teams at Compete. The successful candidate will work closely with the client services team to help establish a long term technology roadmap and ensure that the product delivery is cohesive and scalable.
Reporting to the CTO, this key member of the development team has primary responsibility for the execution and operations supporting application development for the corporation. Managing a myriad of development projects, both tactical and strategic, he or she will play a critical role in supporting the company’s growth targets.
The candidate’s performance is measured by the successful operation of the engineering team, key projects and internal applications. The candidate is also responsible for the quality and effectiveness of personnel within key elements of the development organization, as well as for staff development and succession planning.
Qualifications
• Must be comfortable managing a highly technical group.
• Understanding of business drivers and how to tie technical solutions to these initiatives.
• 5+ yrs experience developing commercial software applications.
• Strong technical project management experience that can help develop and manage schedules, work with all parts of engineering and product management.
• Ability to attract and retain the highest caliber of engineering talent.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Experience with high-traffic or high-transaction systems a strong plus
