CMO For DFJ-backed Consumer Mobile Contest's Tapatap

San Mateo's Taptatap recently raised $2.5M in Series A funding from Gabriel Venture Partners. The company has yet to launch but says it will compete in the mobile consumer social network craze. and will rely on contests. You can view details here.

They are looking for a head of marketing/CMO for whom job 1 will be to build traffic. "Nothing else matters!!!"

The company was co-founded by 3 top Infospace execs, led by CEO Isaac Babbs (your boss) who was GM/VP Mobile Games at Infospace Mobile. Infospace has a terrible reputation but they have great experience so key is to make sure you can trust these guys.

UPDATe: Tapatap gets in touch to clarify that founders of Tapatap previously started a company called Atlas Mobile that we sold to Infospace in July 2004. "In this regard, we were not core Infospace executives nor do we believe there are any issues of trust in our ability to execute." Fair enough.

Tapatap sounds very much like new launches that we have been covering including Kyte.tv and Zannel.

Vice President, Consumer Marketing (CMO) – Mobile 2.0 Entertainment Services

Tapatap, Inc. (http://www.tapatap.com) is a next generation mobile 2.0 content entertainment services company. We are creating exciting consumer focused mobile applications for generation wireless.

Position Summary

The VP, Consumer Marketing (CMO) is a senior executive who will lead and manage all elements of both inbound and outbound marketing, including strategic marketing, branding, product marketing, product management, and communications. This resource will develop messaging to various constituents, including investors, analysts, press, prospects and customers. The VP, Consumer Marketing (CMO) will lead branding and communication strategies of the company, lead development of all tactical and strategic marketing plans, provide input and recommendations for plans for new products including target markets, competitive analysis, pricing strategies, and launch plans.

Responsibilities:
• Build traffic to our service. This is the most important item. You must be able to cost efficiently build traffic. Nothing else matters!!!
• Achieve traffic and revenue objectives for premium services and advertising revenue.
• Develop creative and effective lead generation campaigns that integrate mobile, online, email, web, SEO, affiliate, and viral marketing activities
• Improve awareness through targeted web and traditional PR and advertising activities
• Create and implement company product positioning, branding, brand messaging, and look and feel of the service.
• Create a picture or image of who our customer is and how and what we need to do to successfully get them to our site and then buy premium services from us.
• Successfully launch the company and the service to our customers, press, and industry.
• Hire and manager any outside services such at PR, branding, communication services
• Work closely with the CEO, President, and the rest of the company to implement overall company and marketing strategies.
• Own the Tapatap branding process and positioning
• Manage all outbound messaging
• Manage market and audience research and translate insights into strategy and tactics
• Develop strategic promotions and viral marketing programs for Mobile and Online that drive acquisition and retention

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required. MBA preferred.
• Five years of Director or VP Marketing experience in a consumer online company or consumer product company.
• 2+ years experience at high-traffic, consumer facing mobile or online, brand-name company
• Strong experience in mobile and online viral marketing and brand building
• Mobile content entertainment marketing experience a plus.
• Video game marketing experience a plus
• Ability to target and understand the 16-35 demographic----you need to like and love this demographic.
• Successful track record building consumer internet traffic or mobile web traffic.
• Smart, creative, dynamic, and high energy person.
• Past experience building a marketing team and all aspects of the marketing department from only you and the ground up.
• Excellent PowerPoint/Excel/Word skills.
• Excellent technical skills with computers and phones.
• Ability to multitask and deliver on aggressive timelines.
• Results-oriented with demonstrated leadership skills
• Critical thinker with a bias towards action
• Variety of media experience primarily in the mobile and online entertainment environments
• Expertise in analyzing data, trends, events
• Proven ability and flexibility to steer in a market that is changing constantly and rapidly
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects
• Good sense of humor, positive attitude, and proven dedication
• Enjoy working in small teams at small companies where you personally build something from nothing very fast
