TripOvation is a new company with great venture backing that endeavors to create the next great on-line travel experience. The online travel market is huge and growing (110B by 2010) and we intend to leverage great design, deep market insight, and technology innovation to deliver a travel portal that consumers can’t live with out. We are moving a light speed to build a world-class organization and want to hear from the best and the brightest. Tripovation.com is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to spearhead our development efforts.

POSITION SUMMARY: This individual be responsible for overseeing the architecture and design of the company’s engineering efforts and directing the development of our offering. This position will oversee and be accountable for the quality of work product and processes of both staff development and the work of our outsource partners. The successful candidate will possess both great technology know-how and excellent direct management and leadership ability. The candidate will develop a strong team to deliver a web offering that meet specifications, costs, and schedule while being instantly usable and useful. This individual will work closely with the VP of Products and Editorial Director. The position reports directly to the CEO.

DUTIES:
• Build and retain a small engineering team and select a trusted outsource partner
• Direct the efforts of developers, quality analysts, and technical writers
• Work with internal engineering teams and product managers to gather and develop detailed software specifications and requirements for a variety of products
• Create detailed development plans, prioritize work assignments and assign projects based on available resources
•• Interface with internal product management, design, and business development teams to align internal expectations of work product with market expectations
• Implement sound engineering process and procedures across all development teams
• Set MBOs of direct reports and compare deliverables against objectives
• Provide guidance and training to engineers and motivate individuals to achieve results
• Ensure all projects meet with industry security and compliance standards
• Other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS:
• 12 + years of management experience including demonstrated ability to lead teams within fast-paced technology environments
• Strong leadership and management skills
• Proficient with product design and software development best practices
• Experience building highly-scalable consumer web properties
• Agile, flexible, and adaptive management and work style
• Previous experience with on-line travel technology highly desirable
• Consumer-focused engineering experience is a must
• Ability to manage and motivate employees at all levels
• Strong business acumen and professionalism,
• Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written
• Proven track record of on-time, on-budget project delivery
• Ability to coordinate concurrent engineering efforts of multiple teams and projects within a small company environment
• Excellent problem-solving skills with strong focus on execution
• Must be highly organized, driven, self-motivated, and focused
• Must be fluent in spoken and written English
• Requires some travel
• Experience with the management of e-commerce projects and systems desirable

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related degree is required
• Master degree in an engineering or a business related field highly preferred


PERSONALITY & CHARACTER:

This individual will be a critical member of the Company’s Executive Team. Candidate must be able to see and execute to the “big picture”, while maintaining focus on delivering to key metrics. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated professionalism, excellent communication and people skills. Must have proven management skills and the ability to motivate a staff of engineers. .

Candidate will provide oversight of the Engineering team assisting in the direction and leadership of new projects and product design. We are looking for someone with the maturity, work ethic, commitment, and motivation to do whatever it takes to get the job done right. It is very important that the individual have communication skills to work effectively with others and lead customer interactions. They must also be a team player and dedicate themselves to the team goals and contributing significantly towards the success of a growing small business.
