GM for Yahoo News is a huge gig. Don't believe the hype. Google has not "killed" Yahoo. It's still a fast growth company that has a lot of smart people. Semel has to go but if you have the chops this is a much better job than working at some newspaper.

Position Specification
The GM, Yahoo! News will provide leadership and bring execution excellence and operational rigor to the #1 news Internet site. This executive will develop and implement innovative strategies to advance revenue and market share and change the way people think about interactive news. This key executive will be responsible for taking Yahoo!’s news site into the future with User Generated Conten and an audience-centric experience. The GM is responsible for defining, building and managing the Yahoo! News’ strategy and products.
The GM responsibilities include:
• Strategic business planning. Driving the organization to a shared vision for this important revenue area at the Yahoo!.
• Product vision. Complete redesign of Y! News site and offerings. Collaborate with business partners across the Yahoo! to leverage network integration opportunities and to spearhead a single, shared corporate vision to serve Yahoo! News’ huge user base.
• Programming. Manage internal efforts and works with critical external partners to increase programming offerings and widen the content mix. Continual focus on content strategy and content offering.
• Team building. Attract, hire and retain exceptional talent.
• Translate strategic vision into operational tactics and build the organizational support and infrastructure needed to achieve key priorities. Anticipate, appreciate, and respond to market and customer needs.
• Lead advancement of the division through planning and executing aggressive organic growth.
• Develop and implement aggressive revenue generation and revenue growth plans. Establish and build new partnerships.
• Oversee all product programming and design with responsibly for the entire Yahoo! News experience.
• Lead partnering efforts with executives working in marketing, sales, publishing, operations, and content with responsibility for driving operational efficiency and optimizing business result.
• Profit and Loss management, budgets and annual forecasting.
• Plan and implement processes and procedures to enable business functionality and dexterity.
• Own competitive analysis to ensure that the Yahoo! is driving leading strategies to maintain market leadership and continued pioneering innovation.
Background Required
The successful candidate will have had extensive executive experience in leading, developing and operating a consumer, media business, an Internet company, or like industry where the incumbent was responsible for the successful advancement of the business into the marketplace with concurrent brand management. While the quality and accomplishments of a person's career will be the determining factor in the selection process, the finalist must have the following requisite qualifications:
• Minimum 15 years experience leading large-scale, 'significant' efforts on the Internet with proven management experience with a forward-thinking bent with regard to the industry.
• Extensive knowledge of the media, information and entertainment industries. Skillset in driving 'ratings' metrics preferred.
• A strong leader with demonstrated creative excellence and a visionary and business-builder.
• Experience building a vision from development of the business plan through successful implementation.
• Product leadership and product strategy experience in technology (planning through execution and delivery).
