Engineering VP For Seattle Security Outfit Watchguard

This is a pretty big security company with over 350 employees. The company has been selling security appliances since 1996. Apparently their head of engineering has left (not sure about the story there.) You'll report to Joe Wang who was CEO of LANDesk Software. The company is largely owned by Francisco Partners and Vector Capital.

THE POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
The VP of Engineering reports to the CEO and is responsible for leading an engineering team of over sixty professionals in all aspects of product design and development of commercial software products; management of diversified engineering departments to accomplish objectives; provides technical and financial direction for the design and engineering of products; establishes manpower forecasts, direct and indirect budgets and capital requirements for each fiscal year; ensures outstanding performance and reliability of products designed; represents the company with customers and vendors. Must be able to meet schedules and budgets, as well as motivate and inspire the engineering team to produce excellent results.

THE PERSON
The desired candidate has held executive level engineering management positions in technology-based companies and takes a strategic, proactive, leadership role in developing products on time with quality. It is essential that the candidate can maximize the productivity of a talented engineering team through proper coaching and recruiting.

From a personal standpoint, the person selected will be a bright and personal executive who has the intellect, high energy, and drive to fit in with an extremely bright and motivated management team operating in a highly competitive and fast-paced environment. The candidate will focus on results while instilling a standard of excellence in all aspects of the business. You must be an open communicator, have the highest level of integrity and a strong sense of personal responsibility in accomplishing the organization’s goals. This will necessitate balanced business judgment, the ability to identify situations early and address issues in an action-oriented manner, and a strong measure of people sensitivity and teamwork when implementing change, yet clearly focusing on results.
The candidate must be decisive, tough-minded and fair, while being sensitive to the differences in cultures and people; and providing the strong leadership and motivation to change and grow along with the Company’s business.

REQUIREMENTS
• BS in computer science, MS preferred, and 15 years related experience, 8 of which managing software development team.
• Familiar with Agile Development
• Strong technical background with good business sense in networking, security, and software development.
• Strong managerial capability with proven track record of delivering multiple, high quality software products on schedule without sacrificing product features (or "cut corners") and within budget.
• A driven personality, "can do" attitude, and a results-oriented management style
• Proven ability to work effectively with Marketing and Sales teams in defining product requirements and specifications.
• Proven ability managing multi-site development centers and off-shore centers
• Innovative, creative, strategic thinking and big picture orientation.
• Know how to develop his/her people.
• Leadership – a person who can lead
