Salt Lake City-based CaféScribe is looking for a VP for BD although the company says that relocation to Salt Lake is not necessary. We like the company's mission as textbooks are way overpriced. But teachers may be slow to adopt.

CaféScribe is an online social network where students can download e-textbooks and create online study groups where they can share notes. The idea is to make learning fun and way cool. We named it CafeScribe because we wanted it to feel like you had wondered across the street from campus to meet friends- study, laugh, get to know new people that may or may not go to your school but are studying the same stuff. It is aimed at making the whole going to school business so much more fun…and streamlined.

CaféScribe is looking to hire an Executive Vice President of business development to initiate and negotiate electronic content distribution contracts with higher education publishers. We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating a better situation for people to learn. If you exude enthusiasm, integrity, are a deal closer and are competitive and hard-wired for results you maybe the one. Our aim is to be the industry standard for content the way iTunes is for music. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

* Initiate content licensing discussions with publishing managers
* Negotiate and acquire electronic content distribution licenses
* Ability to manage market research data and quantify business opportunities
* Travel as required to publisher’s headquarters in New York, Boston, Chicago, and other US locations
* Maintain project plan of progress and plans
* Work closely with legal department to approve licensing contracts
* Provide Sales and Marketing support

Qualifications:

* In-depth knowledge of the textbook publishing industry in the United States
* Access to an established network of higher-education textbook publishers
* Experience in sourcing and negotiating content licenses
* Experience overseeing financial, legal, licensing and contractual obligations
* Familiarity with distribution of copyrighted, electronic content including music, books, images, etc
* Experience at a startup is a plus
* At least 5 years experience in the publishing industry
* At least 5 years experience negotiating large deals with clients and partners
* Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated ability compiling market research and analysis
* Proven ability in pricing and utilizing pricing models
* Expertise creating and working with financial spreadsheet models
* Ability to influence and persuade to achieve desired outcomes
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Proven ability to function in a fast paced deadline driven environment
