Seed-Funded Seattle Mobile Search Startup Needs VP Engineering/Co-founder
This pre-name Seattle stealth startup needs an VP of engineering/co-founder. More specifically, they need: applications in mobile social networking, group messaging/telephony & voice recognition. This seed-stage stealth startup was started by a senior Internet executive with a successful track record of launching over 12 ventures resulting in over $200 million in revenue.
The Role:
Reports to CEO, the CTO or VPE will be a hands-on leader (read: you could code with the best of them) & have responsibility for typical engineering-related functions in a consumer mobile startup:
* Technology strategy from initial concept to commercialization, identifying & developing innovative technical solutions to address customer & business scenarios, & building compelling customer experiences.
* Recruit & manage a world-class development team through design,
development, testing and launch. Manage the deployment process to ensure that the product gets built, gets built to spec, & is shipped on time.
* Apply innovative information architecture, usability, accessibility and
design principles.
Qualifications:
* Hands-on software development leader who thrives in early-stage startups, with outstanding record of delivering products from the earliest conceptual stages to successful product launch.
* Willingness & ability to roll up sleeves and build sizable modules of
the mobile service from scratch. You will be the originating
engineering force through your excellent & innovative coding skills.
* Critical thinking skills, finding creative solutions to problems, &
ability to learn (& code) quickly. Defining viable technical solutions &
strategy in alignment with customer experience goals. Proven experience
leading the design, definition, planning and deployment of technology
infrastructure and architecture.
* 5+ years relevant experience (but really it's not the years, it's the
mileage)
* Strong experience launching, releasing, & supporting successful,
large-scale consumer projects
* Strong experience hiring, managing, & motivating a team of A+
engineers through a full product cycle, from inception to release.
* Strong experience with multiple software technologies, Web 2.0 approaches, & innovative programming models, e.g., LAMP, J2SE, et.al. We're not biased but just want the best application service, bar none.
* Experience with rapid development & project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Extreme Programming). Outstanding software process experience including accurately estimating resources needed for software projects, plan and control the technology budget.
* Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, ideally including Board & executive interactions.
* Education: BS, CS, Engineering, or related field.
* A plus: Previously was CTO, VP of Engineering or VP of Software
Development with a high-growth, venture-backed startup & passion &
energy to do it again.
* A plus: Previous experience in consumer mobile services/applications,
group telephony/messaging applications, &/or speech/voice recognition.
* A plus: Experience extracting patentable ideas, working with engineers and legal to file patents. A stable of interesting and innovative patents with your name on them.
* A plus: Successfully formed & managed geographically-dispersed engineering teams & processes.
* The right to work in the United States.
