Engineering VP For VC-Backed, SF-based Avatar Maker Pulse

Pulse Entertainment has secured around $5.8M of an $8.5M second round from return backers Anthem Venture Partners and Draper Associates, says PeHub. Pulse has raised approximately $60M in total VC funding since its 1994.

The San Francisco-based startup looks to rejuvenation as a user generated content management vendor. One feature sounds cool: It automatically transforms static two-dimensional facial images into animated three-dimensional characters with synchronized audio - either recorded or via text-to-speech. We can't find examples of this in action yet.

Job Description

The VP of Engineering will be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the software engineering and quality assurance teams. The successful candidate will have very strong organizational and project management skills, along with a solid software development background as well as a proven history of providing leadership in high up-time environments and building a team in a dynamic startup environment. The VP of Engineering also participates in executive staff meetings and has involvement in all product and software development decisions.

Requirements

* Extensive software Product Development experience
* Shipping multiple commercial products through multiple release cycles
* Experience with multi-site (including international) development involving multiple partner and customer developers.
* Development of client/server products with technologies such as Java, Tomcat, JSP, Apache, Linux;
* Strong academic background mostly likely in CS or Applied Mathematics;
* Software engineering methodologies
* Creation of media-oriented products, 3D experience a plus
* Test methodologies and release control
* Telecommunications-related experience a plus
* Knowledge of mobile platforms a plus
* Familiarity with high up-time environments
* Ability to synthesize engineering strategies from business development, marketing, and strategic requirements
* Ability to recruit, motivate and retain a strong technical team
* Effective communication including strong oral and written communication skills in English to investors, partners and customers
* Will thrive in a dynamic organizational environment
* Proven ability in building a quality engineering organization
