Desi Hits! is an early stage startup focused on digital music, entertainment and community. It is recently backed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Trident Capital.
The term “Desi” refers to the people or when used as an adjective, the products of the diasporic subculture of South Asians (including those with origins from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives). The fusion of South Asian and western sensibilities is evident in pop culture worldwide and its consumers are not just Desis. Desi Hits! began as a blog a year ago and quickly blossomed into a vibrant online community strictly through viral-driven traffic. Its popularity is validated by an average of 180,000 page views each month from 65 countries, and top rankings across the “Desi genre” on iTunes with over 1/3 million podcasts downloaded to date, all prior to any formal marketing efforts.

In essence you’re a hands-on CTO who thrives in the start up world. You have big aspirations, can architect, maybe code but most importantly build a rock star team that can create world-class applications.
You have lots of experience developing and launching consumer Internet products (social networking, user generated content etc). If you’re looking for an opportunity to join a exciting consumer Internet company at a very early-stage where you can play a lead role in the company’s development and strategy while collaborating with a great team we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
• Develop an exceptional, community-driven, music-focused social hub
• Chart technical direction considering both time-to-market constraints and long-term product goals
• Build stellar development team (possibly incorporating 3rd party and remote developers)
Qualificaitons:
• Ability to thrive and lead by example in a dynamic, fast-changing startup environment
• Strong, versatile engineer capable of guiding technical decisions and development on all aspects of the product
• Track record building compelling, interactive, content-driven, scalable web applications from front to back
• Working knowledge of a range of technologies across the web application stack including XHTML, CSS, XML, Ajax, Flash, Java, Ruby on Rails, PHP and MySQL
• Demonstrated ability to build high-quality, dynamic, scalable internet services
• Experience with audio and video streaming
• MSCS or equivalent
