Latest Numbers Show Silicon Valley Added 30K Jobs Last Year; Wages Back Up
Joint Venture Silicon Valley says "Silicon Valley is back and its rebooting." Indeed 30K new jobs in a year is significant for a relatively small stretch of land. In 2000, only 2000 new jobs were created. The unemployment rate is now 4% down from 5%.
Moreover, average annual wages were up 4% to $74.302, although they are still down from the high point in 2000 when they hit $86,320.
Also of interest is that most of the job growth comes from smaller companies, rather than your Ciscos and HPs, which have been hiring in other geographies.

VC-backed Jott Hiring Marketing VP

This has to be one of the top open venture jobs in the Seattle area. Founded by a couple of senior Microsoft alums, Jott has taken seed funding less than $1M from Ackerley Partners, Draper Richards and the newly formed investment firm of Skype founder Niklas Zennstrom.
The idea with Jott is to marry email and a toll free number to supplant the sticky note. Call the number: "Honey, don't forget the huggies." Bam, you get the email and the voice mail with the mission critical message. The number to remember is 877-JOTT IT NOW.
Jott is in beta now and plans to give away its service for free. It plans to make money through a premium service, but it also might apply advertising.
Apply to job-261758851@craigslist.org
Are you ready to build a phenomenon? Jott.com is “incredibly clever” and “simply addictive” and we have an amazing roadmap of innovation ahead of us. We’re looking for an outstanding marketing talent to join our still small team and All-Planet group of investors. The founders were instrumental players in Expedia and MSN Messenger. The investors seeded Hotmail, Overture and Skype.
This role is a rarity: the opportunity to build – from scratch – a sophisticated, high-performance marketing engine for a product with intuitive value, global reach and low adoption barriers. Better yet, it’s early enough to fundamentally shape our brand, product direction and basic customer connection.
The job will be entrusted to an A-level person who is both driven and fun to work with. If that’s you, you will have demonstrated wins on a large scale, yet still possess the hunger to do it again. You will be a magnet and inspiration for other A-level talent. You will thrive in an environment of creativity, debate, short release cycles and high expectations.
You will have a strong track record in:
• Marketing communications
• Customer acquisition and lifecycle management
• Brand management and
• Cooperative marketing
We work in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, surrounded by great restaurants and blocks from the Burke-Gilman biking trail. We live all over the metro area.
If this sounds like your next great step, please forward your resume to jobs@jott.com.

Share Apt With Guy in Harvard Sq./Build His Personal Finance App
We think this dude needs to figure out a way to make this sound a bit more glamorous.
"I intend to organize all personal transactions in the world by the end of 2007 and already mocked up the concept app we need. Levl will eliminate the need for people to create individual budgets (which is a pain), keep receipts (even more painful), input transactions into Quicken, Money, review bank accounts, credit card accounts etc, etc. Its time someone simplified Quicken and Money and Levl does just that.
"I’m looking for a really smart hacker who loves programming and developing mind twisting algorithms to join me. This is a pre-funding gig and of course, compensation is strictly in Equity (and big “thank you"s until we get funding). It doesn’t matter if you are in grad school as long as you will have time to work on this project."
ob-257724540@craigslist.org
I am relocating to Harvard Square in February 2007. If you want to share my two bedroom apartment, that can be arranged. I’ll pay the rent for the first 6 months as we complete and test a prototype (basically you get to live for free & work on stuff you like in Harvard Square without a boss).
I have all the equipment we'll need starting out : Two dual processor Xeon servers, several computers, firewall, storage, and other startup equipment (in case you were wondering, it’s all from my VoIP startup that crushed & burned - wont happen this time, I promise :)
This is a really cool opportunity! If you are interested and smart, please email me examples of your projects and a resume and we can begin changing the world_of_finance!
