You'd make a lot of money in this job but damn you'd have to have some good political skills to survive.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online has an open req for an Internet VP. That means you run the Internet show for theme parks on 3continents, 35 resort hotels, two luxury cruise ships, and a more and the Interent group has 200 employees.

Apparently the company recently realized that they were sitting on a pile of money coming in through the Internet. They say its several hundred million dollars and is soon expected to reach $1B.

VICE PRESIDENT, TECHNOLOGY, WALT DISNEY PARKS AND RESORTS ONLINE

Disney Parks and Resorts operates and licenses eleven theme parks on three continents. It also operates 35 resort hotels, two luxury cruise ships, and a wide variety of other entertainment offerings.

The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online (WDPRO) Group oversees all of the online web activities, ecommerce, online attractions and informational sites representing the Walt Disney Company theme parks and resort hotel properties This includes handling all online pre-arrival arrangements, such as bookings. This rapidly growing source of revenue generates several hundred million dollars and is soon expected to reach $1 billion. Consumers can also visit sites for exciting online simulations of experiences at theme parks and resorts. Although part of the Walt Disney Internet Group, the online technology group works closely with management at the WDPRO organization. The online group currently consists of over 200 people.

The Walt Disney Internet Group is part of the Walt Disney Company, one of the most of respected and successful entertainment companies in the world. The company also operates the ABC Television Network; ESPN Sports Network; the ABC Radio Networks; theme parks, resorts and cruise lines; television and radio stations. It provides programming for the cable television industry, publishes daily and weekly newspapers, shopping guides and specialized periodicals. Annual revenues exceed $27 billion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Vice President is responsible of all technology for WDPRO. This includes product and system design, architectural fit and compliance, resource scheduling and delivery milestones, and overall product quality. He/she must also drive technological innovation assessing new and disruptive technologies and their application for Parks and Resorts

The successful candidate will also work closely with the Walt Disney Internet Group Operations Team, ensuring that service delivery levels achieve quality expectations. The successful candidate must also be a technology ?diplomat?. He/she must interact effectively with members of Information Technology departments throughout the Walt Disney Company, with non-technical decision makers, and with external partners. The job requires 25% travel to Orlando.
The Vice President will ensure adequate staffing, training and education programs for staff development. A critical challenge will be to create a strong management team within the technology staff, both training and motivating existing personal as well as recruiting new technical professionals.

The Vice President will oversee investment and will support operating/capital spending, staffing and planning. He/she will prepare and monitor all objectives, projects, plans and budgets, making sure that goals are achieved on time and on budget. In addition, the Vice President will create and monitor policies for standards of development, tools and methodologies, documentation practices, and procedures for products installed on the WDPRO sites.

EXPERIENCE:

Candidates should have a Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience). The candidate should have extensive software experience including web application and enterprise development. Candidates must have a proven track record of managing large teams of technical people, preferably in multiple locations.

Experience in the travel industry would be a plus but is not essential. Candidates should have experience with large, complex companies with matrix environments.
They should understand how to motivate and to achieve ambitious goals. They should have experience providing leadership in the evolution of the sophisticated architecture. They should also have experience dealing effectively with non-technical decision makers.
