Be Engineering VP for San Mateo Local Search Deal Backfence

Backfence has created community sites for about a dozen cities to date. It has also raised $3M from from SAS Investors and Omidyar Network as well as angel investors such as Frank Bonsal Jr., co-founder of New Enterprise Associate. Advisors include Michael Rodgers, former GM of Newsweek.com and WashPost.com and Merrill Brown, founder of MSNBC.
Backfence competes with Yelp, SmallTown, Merchent's Circle, Judy's Book and Craigs' List among others. Backfence has yet to have any success getting any traffic. We suspect this is the reason that the start-up has aborted its engineering leadership and is looking for someone who can build product that would be of interest.
Send your resume to Tom Gentry, tom at backfence dot com.
