Piczo Keeps Hiring Up - Wants Software VP

Again, fast growing Piczo targets teens and gives them photo website-building tools with an online community twist. It has raised nearly $4M from Sierra Ventures and Catamount Ventures, It has been around since 2004. CEO is Jeremy Verba, former EIR at Foundation Capital, and former founder and CEO of E! Online. He replaced the former CEO Paul Remer.

Piczo, a leader in the online social networking space, is seeking a strong, entrepreneurial leader to lead the Piczo engineering teams and deliver the future in online social personal expression.

Piczo is a fast-moving, energetic startup where teams from all departments work hard and interact with a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. Our service is used by millions of intensely loyal customers around the world who use Piczo to create rich, personal websites that they share with their friends.

Piczo, Inc. is conveniently located in downtown San Francisco and is easily assessable from public bus (Muni), train (BART) and ferry lines.

We are seeking a hands-on experienced software management professional to lead and continue building our team of seasoned, senior developers, many of whom have 10 or more years of experience with Java and other enterprise and internet technologies.

Specific duties include:
• Growing, mentoring and managing the engineering team: recruiting, mentoring, performance reviews, career management, training, staff development.
• Project management: task definition, assignment, estimation, tracking, prioritization across multiple internal and external constituencies.
• Establish and implement strong Engineering processes: object-oriented design, rapid prototyping, management, consumer-facing web properties, advertising and ecommerce protocols and infrastructure.
• Strategic vision: identification and pursuit of opportunities associated with new and evolving technologies and their ability to impact the business.
• Build highly reliable, scalable, and maintainable Piczo platform with high performance, fault tolerant operation.
• Drive the engineering team in design, development and implementation of systems and processes to ensure scalable architecture deployable globally with smooth migration into production.
• Work closely with Product Management to evaluate and scope new intiatives, flush out technical requirements, and drive development through aggressive launch cycles
• Partner with Technical Operations to ensure that quality and operational requirements are built into every Product release and output from the Engineering team is developed with performance, scalability, stability, security, and operational supportability at the core; coordinate with QA and Release Engineering groups for all product releases
• Evangelize with senior management and external partners to promote groups vision, strategy and plan a path for success.
• Results oriented manager who has experience delivering projects under tight deadlines and high pressure.

Candidates must have...
• A bachelor's degree (M.S. preferred) in computer science or related discipline
• At least 10 years of experience in commercial software development in an enterprise or consumer internet business
• At least 5 years of experience managing software development teams
• Experience with high-volume, transactional database applications
• Deep understanding of the Java language, architectures and environments
• Experience in evaluating, selecting and integrating best-of-breed/ innovative technologies
• Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve goals in an innovative and fast paced environment
• Excellent analytic problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent time management and leadership skills

The ideal candidate will have experience with...
• Operating systems: multiple flavors of Linux®
• Relational Databases: MySQL. (Oracle helpful)
• Web/Application servers: Apache , Tomcat, JBoss
• Multi-terabyte storage architectures
• Web interfaces and Languages: Java, PHP, Perl
